Front-to-Back Liquidity: Building Resilience Across the Lines
Lately, one word keeps following me everywhere: ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐๐.
People fear it, market price it, risk managers model it. None of us escape it.
And if you grew up in Asian culture, some of us might go to see a fortune teller. Families consult fortune tellers before big decisions. Parents want to know if their child will succeed. Young people ask about love, career, the future waiting for them. Dermatoglyphics, Numerology, Physiognomy, Astrology, Horoscope… entire systems built around mapping your destiny.
Whether you’re reading the stars or running a Monte Carlo simulation, at the end of the day, you’re asking the same question:
๐ช๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ป๐ฒ๐
๐?
We wonder about our careers, our relationships, the life we haven’t lived yet. Meanwhile, traders are making bets on tomorrow’s prices. Insurers are modeling catastrophes that haven’t happened. Risk managers are running stress tests and building financial instruments.
All in pursuit of one thing: ๐บ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ ๐ฎ ๐น๐ถ๐๐๐น๐ฒ ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ.
We are all, in our own way, trying to tame the unknown.
I’ve been sitting with this thought for a while. And to find the answers and move forward, I tell myself: just keep showing up, talk to people, and never stop learning. Time will unfold.
And last week, I walked into a room at ๐ฆ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ in New York City, as a student member of ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฃ ๐ก๐ฒ๐ ๐ฌ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ธ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ฝ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ, and heard about the Velocity of Liquidity, Stress Testing 2.0, 1st and 2nd Line Collaboration and Ai Impact.
A few things that stayed with me:
โ Stress testing isn’t a periodic event. It’s a continuous state of mind. Because the next crisis never looks like the last one.
โ FTP is the most powerful, and most underappreciated, tool for translating risk into behavior that actually changes.
โ AI won’t save us from uncertainty. But combined with human judgment, it might help us navigate it faster.
I’m still learning. Still a student trying to understand how the pieces fit together.
But rooms like that remind me why I chose this field…
Because uncertainty isn’t something to fear. It’s something worth spending a whole life learning.
Here’s some of the photographs I’ve taken during the event:
